Whether you want to change the size of your breasts, tighten and lift your breasts, reconstruct your breasts after a mastectomy or relieve chronic pain, our highly skilled surgeons will work closely with you to create a customized and natural look.
Are you considering breast surgery?
Changing your breasts' size, shape or appearance can help improve your self-confidence and body image, especially if one or both breasts are removed due to breast cancer. For some women and women assigned female at birth (AFAB), breasts are an important part of their identity.
The decision to have breast surgery is very personal. Our plastic surgeons will work closely with your primary care doctor and medical team to carefully review your condition and discuss your goals.
Conditions
You may choose to have breast surgery for medical or cosmetic reasons. Although there are no specific medical conditions required to have breast surgery, there are many physical and emotional factors that might play a role in your decision.
Reasons for surgery include:
- Breast asymmetry
- Changes in breast size due to aging or weight
- Correct uneven breasts due to other conditions (surgery for breast cancer, lump or tumors)
- Difficulty taking part in physical activities
- Issues fitting into clothes and bras
- Neck, back and shoulder pain
- Nerve pain
- Psychological issues
- Problems with sexual intimacy
- Self-image/confidence issues
- Skin irritation/rash
Testing
We will likely recommend several tests to ensure you are healthy and ready for surgery and recovery. Tests we may recommend include:
- Blood tests
- Chest X-ray
- Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG)
- Echocardiogram
- Lung function test
Treatments
We offer a range of breast surgeries that can improve your health, confidence and self-esteem. Our surgeons will work closely with you to recommend a procedure to achieve your vision.
Breast surgery services that we provide include:
Breast augmentation
Breast augmentation is the most common type of plastic surgery, it’s purpose is to increase the size of the breasts by inserting saline or silicone gel implants. The result is a fuller, firmer and proportioned look.
Breast lift
Your breasts may lose shape for various reasons — aging, smoking and weight loss — to name a few. You may have a breast lift to remove loose skin and tighten the remaining tissue, reshaping and raising the breasts and creating a firmer look. A breast lift does not change the size of your breasts.
Breast reduction
The size of your breasts can cause back pain, posture problems and even spine issues like herniated disks. Breast reduction surgery removes fat and tissue while tightening the skin and lifting the breast.
Gynecomastia, or enlarged breasts in men and assigned males at birth (AMABs), is a common condition that can be treated with breast reduction surgery.
Breast reconstruction
Breast reconstruction surgery recreates the natural look of a woman's or AFABs breasts after radiation therapy, lumpectomy or mastectomy. A surgeon will use an implant or tissue (usually from your abdomen or back) to create your desired shape. It can take more than one surgery to reconstruct your breast.
Oncoplasty
Oncoplastic breast surgery balances the medical must-haves (removing cancerous cells) and cosmetic considerations (how the breasts look).
FAQs
Yes, although the scars are small and usually fade and smooth out over time. Our surgeons try to minimize scar visibility by making the incisions in places that can be hidden.
You'll start to feel better in weeks to months, depending on the procedure you had. Since everyone's recovery differs, listening to your doctor and following their recommendations is essential.
If you don't have to lift or have a physically demanding job, you may be able to return one week after surgery. If you carry heavy objects, you will likely have to wait two weeks before returning to avoid swelling.
Depending on the type of surgery, your insurance may cover the procedure. Most group health insurance plans must cover breast reconstruction surgery after a mastectomy. Still, checking with your insurance company before proceeding with any procedure is best. We can provide a price estimate.
